Hyderabad and the other T- districts continued to reverberate with protests and preventive arrests on Monday even as the Samara Deeksha held by the pro-T outfits vowed to step up the agitation in view of the Congress-led UPA government opting to keep on dithering on the issue. The Telangana leaders including TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao said the agitations would include blocking the national and state highways linking Telangana to the other two regions and issued an ultimatum to Congress elected representatives from the region including ministers to immediately quit their posts and the party or face the wrath of the Telangana people. The T-JAC called upon people to boycott Congress leaders from the region. However, the T Congress MPs and ministers took divergent views on Monday with the former threatening to send their quit letters to party president Sonia Gandhi and the latter reposing their faith on the Congress chief and refusing to quit.
We have resolved to intensify the agitation, and would like to warn the government that it would face real heat in the coming days. We do not want any relationship with the Seemandhra region, and to ensure that,we are going to block the highways linking to cities like Vijayawada and Kurnool, T - Political JAC chairman M Kodandaram said while addressing the Samara Deeksha held at Indira Park on Monday morning.Speaking at the meeting later in the day,KCR said the TRS along with the TJAC will intensify the agitation and described the T Congress MPs and ministers as shameless and without having any souls. The future plan of agitation will be announced by the Telangana Political JAC shortly,he said, and hinted that it would include a massive Chalo Assembly rally when the House is convened for the budget session in February.
The day saw protesters engage in pitched battles with the police at several places in the city and the latter resorting to preventive arrests.O U Students JAC activists, who had formed groups to break through the police cordons, engaged with the cops at three places. While one batch of students were lathicharged when they tried to break the police barricades at the Samara Deeksha venue with the intention of proceeding towards Gun Park, another batch of protesters were caned near RTC X-roads when they were proceeding towards Indira Park from the campus. At Khairatabad, over 30 PDSU activists were arrested when they were proceeding towards Raj Bhavan while another group of students were arrested near Gun Park where they wanted to stage a protest.
