Will Sonia agree to T resolution at party plenary

New Delhi: Caught between a high command that does not appear to take forward the creation of Telangana and an aggressive TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao who is pushing them to a corner with each passing day,Telangana Congress leaders want the AICC plenary to pass a resolution that it will initiate the T process immediately. But indications are that they would not be able to persuade the Congress high command to pass such a resolution at the party plenary. The massive response to TRS Warangal meeting makes it clear that we would not be able to enter our constituencies unless the Congress initiates the process of creation of the separate state. But so far,the response from the central leaders is very cool to our plea of passing a resolution, said a leader.

But realising that they cannot keep quiet, about 40-odd Telangana Congress leaders including MPs, MLAs and MLCs huddled in several meetings in the national capital on Saturday and now want to submit a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi urging her to move forward on Telangana. The leaders, who are in New Delhi to take part in the AICC plenary scheduled to commence on Sunday, spent the whole day holding discussions at the residences of colleagues as to the possible situation in the region after December 31,when the Srikrishna Committee is expected to submit its report. The leaders are expected to submit a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday drawing her attention to the urgency to take a decision immediately.A situation where the Telangana Congress MPs,MLAs and MLCs cannot move around is likely to be created in the region. We cannot venture to go out in the absence of a decision by the Congress party. We want to explain the emerging hostile situation in the region to Sonia, a senior leader who attended the meeting told STOI.

The T Congress leaders first met for some time at MP G Viveks house, then at Union minister S Jaipal Reddys house in the day.Later, the venue shifted to Rajya Sabha MP and CWC member K Kesava Raos residence and from there,to Bhongir MP K Rajagopal Reddys house. After hours of deliberations, the party leaders are said to have agreed on writing the letter to Sonia. The onepage brief letter has been drafted by Kesava Rao.MPs Manda Jagannatham,Ponnam Prabhakar,Gutha Sukhender Reddy, panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy, senior leaders R Damodar Reddy,P Goverdhan Reddy,P Narsa Reddy,B Kamalakar Rao,K Yadava Reddy have signed the letter.

Dont cross Laxman-rekha - Post Dec.31 Agitators Will Face Tough Police Action: DGP

Guntur/Ongole: Triggering a controversy ahead of the T-deadline,state DGP K Aravinda Rao on Saturday warned the agitators that any crossing of the Laxman rekha would be met with police action. He said the police forces are there to maintain law and order in the state and provide peace to all.

Speaking to media during his whirlwind visit to Ongole and Guntur on Saturday, the police chief charged the champions of Telangana with blackmailing police officials in that region. They are virtually threatening our officials in the Telangana region. We are not politicians to react to all the statements. We will only follow the instructions of the state government, the DGP said.

Talking tough on the issue of politicians making inflammatory statements, the DGP warned the leaders that they would have to face the law if they use words like antaryuddham (internal war).He said that everyone has the right to protest peacefully and democratically. Admitting that additional forces were being summoned to the state keeping in view the possible unrest following the Srikrishna Committees report,Aravinda Rao said that it was the decision of the state government. The Centre had deputed additional forces to the state at the request of the government and not at the behest of the police,he added. On the unrest in Osmania University, the DGP said only a handful of OU students were interested in such agitations. In my assessment, more than 5700-5800 students of the total 6000 students are interested in appearing for examinations and building their careers.Only the remaining few are creating troubles, he clarified.

When asked how would he justify lifting of cases against those who spread the violence, the DGP preferred not to comment on the governments decision. The state government has every right to review the police action. As duty bound officials,we can only implement its policies and instructions.I cannot comment on the governments decision on lifting of the cases, he said. Aravinda Rao said the police booked cases against the students of all the regions when they resorted to violence. He appealed to all the political parties in the state to help them maintain law and order in the state post-December 31.

The DGP said the Maoists were desperately making attempts to sneak into the state through AOB and they were not giving them such an opportunity. He said that all the district police chiefs were directed to be alert to foil the re-entry attempts of the Maoists. The DGP unveiled the statue of A S C Wesley, the chief security officer of late CM YSR,who was killed in the chopper mishap along with the CM at Ongole. Just a handful of students at OU are creating trouble. The rest are interested in building their careers
