Congress leaders and MLAs of Rayalaseema region on Wednesday presented their views before the Srikrishna committee.The leaders opposed the bifurcation of the state and informed the committee that they will abide by the Congress high commands decision on contentious Telangana state issue. Senior Congrss leader and MLA JC Diwakar Reddy told newsmen after meeting the Srikrishna committee that they are committed to united Andhra state.However,the Rayalaseema Congress leaders would respect the partys high command decision on the issue of bifurcation of state based on the Srikrishna Committee report, he added. Reddy pointed out that formation of small states is no solution for lack of development of a region. Naxal menace has increased in the newly-created Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand states where people and governments expected rapid growth after their creation.He said that the 10-member team led by him explained the committee m e m b e r s that development of backward areas would only solve the problem.
Another senior leader and Congress MLC YS Vivekananda Reddy said Rayalaseema region was the most backward region in the state.The region should be developed by providing sufficient irrigation water from Krishna and Godavari rivers,he added.
