DOORS OPEN - TRS regains OU lost ground

In the wake of the suicide on Osmania University (OU) campus, the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) has begun reclaiming the OU campus which has become a stronghold of the OU-Joint Action Committee (JAC) in the last few months. With the suicide note of Eshan Reddy pledging support for TRS supremo K Chandrasekar Rao,Osmania University, which has always showed a lukewarm response to the party, opend up its gate for the party leaders on Saturday.Throughout the rally that was taken out from Arts College to Gun Park,it were the TSR activists who were calling the shots, though the students JAC members were also present. And unlike on the earlier occasions,Telangana JAC president Kodandaram visited the OU campus but stayed in the background this time. The thumping victory of the TRS in the bypolls has virtually made it the only voice of the people of the region. And with the OU student committing suicide while displaying his loyalty for KCR,the TRS appears to take firm control of the OU campus as well, said a leader.

Until now,the OU students JAC and the Telangana JAC ran the show in the campus. And KCR had to be very cautious in his utterances and actions while visiting the campus either to express solidarity with a student who had committed suicide or with the students who had gathered in strength for the Telangana cause. Analysts wonder whether along with the bypolls giving it virtual monopoly of the region, the suicide of the student has given the TRS the much needed say in the OU campus, where the students have preferred not to toe KCRs line as to how the movement should be taken forward.A lot depends on how the TRS consolidates its new-found hold in the OU campus, they averred.OU is seen as very important because it has been a hotbed of T politics since 1969.Being in the heart of Hyderabad it is very important and has a symbolic effect if not anything else, a political analyst said.
