Minister,MP seek action against RDS saboteurs

Stating that the sluice plates of Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) on the Mahbubnagar-Kurnool border were damaged by some miscreants, civil supplies minister J Krishna Rao and MP Manda Jagannadham on Saturday met chief minister K Rosaiah and sought action against those responsible for the act as well as steps for the repair of the damaged gates. Addressing the media after submitting a memorandum to the chief minister at his camp office,Krishna Rao said that late on Friday, about 1,000 people came to Agasanur village under Kosgi mandal of Kurnool district and destroyed four plates of one river sluice pertaining to the Rajoli Diversion Scheme (RJD) across the Tungabhadra river. He said that the incidents like this would only precipitate the regional tensions. The incident took place a day after the Srikrishna Committee-appointed engineering experts visited the spot to study the irrigation facilities in the region.Jaganadham said Mahbubnagar district farmers, who were expecting water from the RDS canal, would not get it now because of the damage to the gates and claimed that crops in over 87,000 acre ayacut may be threatened.
