The Telangana political JAC is betting big on the 1.70 lakh teacher force in the region to ensure the success of the proposed people's strike beginning August 17. Addressing teachers, who were on a one-day deeksha at the dharna chowk in Lower Tank Bund on Wednesday, political JAC chairman M Kodandaram Reddy said that teachers must take the lead during the indefinite general strike proposed from August 17.You have the ability to mould the opinion of every child and his or her parent in every village.I call upon all of you to take the responsibility of convincing every household in your respective areas to express support to the strike call by pouring on to the streets across Telangana region in support of the demand for the formation of Telangana state, he said. "You are torch-bearers of this movement. You must ensure that the Telangana slogan is heard in every g a l l i across the region.Only then will rulers in Delhi respond in an appropriate manner,"the TJAC chairman said.Urging teachers to stay united at this critical hour,he asked them to be on guard against destructive forces trying to break their unity. The TJAC chairman also reiterated his demand asking MLAs to resign before August 6 and said there would be no compromise on the issue.
TJAC convenor and TNGO president K Swami Goud urged Congress and TDP MLAs to resign afresh."Please do not shoot from the shoulders of employees.Tell us what else you can do for the movement,"he said. "If teachers are in the forefront of the movement, people will follow you without fail. You have the potential to knock on every door and influence each and every person in Telangana.I call upon teachers to participate in the general strike in large numbers from August 17 and choke the state government.Only then will we see a reaction from the Centre,"he observed.
Speaker after speaker reminded teachers that they alone had the potential to sustain the movement and take it to the final level.Siddipet legislator T Harish Rao called upon teachers to tear pages from school textbooks which had the song `Maa Telugu Talli in it."I request all of you to hold a one-day programme to burn pages of this song in front of every school,as this song represents Seemandhra people's dominance and influence on us, he said.
Nagam Janardhan Reddy urged them to keep the flame of the Telangana movement alive among all students and parents till the formation of the new state."Please seize this opportunity to send across a strong message to the elected representatives from the region that the movement is no longer in their hands. We will have to start the quit Telangana movement and drive out all forces that are working against the interests of Telangana,"he said.
Meanwhile,T TDP MLAs'convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao was forced to leave the deeksha venue by the teachers, who accused him of being an agent of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu. They shouted slogans and vented their ire at Rao by displaying their footwear."You are welcome here only when you quit the TDP,"they shouted.
