T anguish: OU student jumps before train - Suicide Notes Urge PM,Sonia To Grant Telangana

Even as speculations over the UPA governments forward movement on the vexed T issue are flying thick and fast,a post graduate student of OU committed suicide here anguished over the inordinate delay in carving out a separate T-state. Analysts are worried that this extreme act by a student could trigger a spree of suicides of youth and students in support of Telangana cause. Soon after the suicide, OU was back on the boil with students staging violent protests on the campus. The angry students fought pitched battles with police. The campus remained tense till late in the evening on Monday.
Naikeni Naresh,23,jumped in front of a speeding train at Mancherial railway station in the late hours of Sunday and his mutilated body was found on the tracks in the early hours of Monday.Naresh, who was a senior MA (Hindi) student, wrote separate letters to AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging them to grant statehood to Telangana immediately. In the suicide notes found on his body,Naresh expressed concern over the delay in formation of separate T-state. The dilly-dallying on the T-issue should stop immediately. The unemployed youths would get jobs once a separate Telangana is formed, he wrote.Naresh said time was running out and pleaded with the PM and Congress president to announce Telangana forthwith. The mutilated body of Naresh,a native of Chintaguda village in Kagaznagar mandal, 80 km from Manchiryal, was found on the tracks at the end point of the platform at Manchiryal station.Police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Manchiryal government hospital. Angered by what they thought was police over-enthusiasm in shifting the body to the hospital,Telangana protagonists led by Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLAs Kaveti Sammaiah (Sirpur) and Nallala Odelu (Chennur) staged a rasta roko on the Manchiryal-Bellampalli main road. They demanded that his body be brought back to the town centre.Police relented and shifted the body to the centre where the leaders paid homage.Late in the evening, the body was shifted to Kagaznagar.
With a view to helping pursue his higher education, women group members of his native village had given him loans. He was passionate in studies. He used to advise local students to continue their studies and aim for top positions in life, a women group member recalled. In his suicide note,Naresh also mentioned about his jaundice problem and found fault with local doctors for wrong diagnosis. He was not keeping well for the last couple of months, sources said.

POLICE RULE OUT T ANGLE BEHIND SUICIDE - Students suicide triggers violence in OU - Pitched Battles Fought As Police Foil Students Bid To Take Out A Rally On The Campus
OU turned violent on Monday afternoon with scores of students taking out a protest rally in support of Nagesh, an MA student of Hindi department who allegedly committed suicide in Manchiriyal,Adilabad district in support of Tcause although the varsity officials denied that it was a T-related suicide. The students fought pitched battles with paramilitary forces deployed around the campus till late in the evening at different locations on OU campus.OU-JAC has declared a campus bandh on Tuesday.  Trouble started when students took out a rally at around 3 pm from New Research Scholar Hostel (NRSH) towards Tarnaka. The rally was stopped by the police and paramilitary forces near Old PG hostel to prevent students from spilling out of the campus. While the agitating students pelted stones, the police fired tear gas shells to disperse them. The stand off between students and police lasted until late evening near A Ground,Manjeera Hostel and OU police station. While three police personnel were injured in the violence, five students who were hit by tear gas shells were treated at Durgabai Deshmukh hospital.
The paramilitary forces even entered the OU campus to control the agitating students on Monday.Students said that they will continue their protest till the state government announces an ex gratia for Nageshs parents.Students said that Nagesh, who was also a member of OUJAC had gone to his hometown for Dasara vacation and had stayed there even after classes reopened. He used to participate in all agitations that were organised on campus in support of the T cause. We never expected him to kill himself as he was a very cheerful person, said one of his classmates. OU police, however, said that the student had gone home about four months ago due to ill health. He was undergoing treatment in one of the hospitals in the district and died on Monday. The primary investigations conducted by OU police and police officials of Manchiriyal do not indicate that it is a suicide, said OU police officials.
They added that the student had contracted jaundice three months ago and he went home to get treated. He has not been attending classes since the past few months. The student does not have any history of depression. The university was informed in the morning that his body was found from railway tracks near his home.Even his friends seem to be shocked, said S Satyanarayana,vice-chancellor,Osmania University.
