96-year-old Konda Lakshman Bapuji, who ended his week-long hunger strike in Delhi demanding a separate Telangana state,on Monday said he will rope in more freedom fighters from the region to continue his satyagraha. A meeting of the Telangana freedom fighters will be held in Hyderabad on November 10 to decide the future course of action, he told reporters here at Jantar Mantar where his week-long satyagraha came to a close. Bapuji,a 1969 pro-Telangana agitation leader accompanied by other freedom fighters and prominent leaders from Telangana region, sat on a week-long satyagraha from November 1 to demand that the Centre honour its commitment to statehood for Telangana.
Claiming that this was not the end,he stated that a core committee will soon be formed to chalk out a strategy to carry forward his 'save democracy satyagraha' at various levels. We will launch satyagraha in Parliament during the upcoming winter session. Why should the government be allowed to function if they don't agree with the decision of the majority he said. Asked whether he would ask Rahul Gandhi to intervene,Bapuji said,I will be glad if Rahul plays an important role in honouring the commitments made by the Centre. But we as freedom fighters will not beg anybody.
On home minister P Chidambaram's statement made last month that a solution for Telangana issue will be given after Eid,he said,When people don't believe the government, why should I Congress is evasive. One minister from the government says after Eid,another says by January the issue will be resolved.Whom should we believe . Comparing their agitation with Hazare's movement,he said,Anna's movement is to curb corruption, ours is to curb 'avniti'.Our Satyagraha is against bribery as well as misconduct by not honouring commitments made. AP minister for handloom and textiles P Shankar Rao who was here to lend support to Bapuji likened the struggle for Telangana to struggle for independence.Just like India got independence in 1947 and freedom was its birthright, similarly Telangana is our birthright.

TRS now sets its eyes on Mahbubnagar
After grabbing the Banswada Assembly seat from Telugu Desam Party, the TRS, which is wooing MLAs from other parties,is now eying the Mahbubnagar Assembly constituency. The seat fell vacant with the death of sitting MLA N Rajeshwar Reddy,an independent, last week. According to sources,as the family of Rajeshwar Reddy is not ready to join the TRS,the party is said to be toying with the idea of neutralizing the sympathy for the family by fielding wellknown TEJAC leader K Srinivas Goud as its candidate. Mahbubnagar district, which till recently was outside the influence of the TRS,is slowly turning into a fortress for the party. After TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao won the MP seat from Mahbubnagar, the party has been able to woo many influential leaders from other parties. The first to join the party was former BJP MP Jitender Reddy, who brought into the party a large number of BJP cadre.Recently, another influential leader and former minister Jupalli Krishna Rao joined the TRA after quitting the Congress. The names of at least two TDP MLAs are doing the rounds as the next possible migrants to the TRS.
The TRS had initially wooed Rajeshwar Reddys widow Vijayalakshmi into its fold with the offer of supporting her candidature. In its attempts to build rapport with Vijayalakshmi,K Kavita, daughter of KCR,met Vijayalakshmi to express her condolences. But with that failing, the TSR is holding out the threat of fielding TEJAC leader Srinivas Goud from the constituency.Goud is one of the top leaders of the TEJAC and hails from the same district. So,if he is fielded, the local employees would help him win the seat without any difficulty, a TEJAC functionary said.
