Talkathon continues as TJAC toughens stand -Cong Parleys May Conclude Today

New Delhi/Hyderabad: Even as the troubleshooter of the UPA government Pranab Mukherjee has dropped enough hints that the consultation process on Telangana issue would conclude by Monday, the Centre continues to grapple with the contentious statehood issue that has paralyzed normal life in the region for close to a month now. Several rounds of political consultations were held between the state and central leaders on Sunday and some more are scheduled for Monday. But toughening its stand,Telangana Joint Action Committee said there was no question of calling off the ongoing Sakala Janula Samme till the Centre issues a tangible statement on carving out the separate Telangana state.

PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana, who met AICC secretary incharge of AP affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad in Delhi,is understood to have briefed him about the situation in the T region, hit by the ongoing Sakala Janula Samme, which entered the 27th day on Sunday.I have given my opinion.I said the aspirations of the people of AP should be looked into by the government before taking any decision, he told reporters. He appealed to the striking employees to call off the stir, saying that the Centre is seized of the matter.Soon there would be an amicable solution that would be beneficial to the people of the state, he said.

In the night, senior MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao led a delegation of Seemandhra leaders to meet Pranab.Chiranjeevi, who also reached Delhi late in the evening following a call from Azad,is expected to meet key leaders to discuss issue. A day after holding discussions with party leaders from AP,Pranab said the consultation process within the Congress is still going on.We will be able to complete the process by Monday, he said. He,however, refused to set any deadline for resolution of the matter. After day-long meetings in Hyderabad, the T-Congress leaders hoped that the Centre would soon resolve the statehood issue in an amicable manner that would satisfy the aspirations of the people. The Congress MPs from Telangana, who have threatened to go on an indefinite fast, said the government must respond and come out with a statement in two days. They said the T region has been crippled by the indefinite strike.

Meanwhile,Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) chairman M Kodandaram, who was on his way to the Kothagudem coal fields on Sunday to extend solidarity with the striking coal workers was stopped and arrested at Pembarthi in Warangal district and taken to the Aler police station.
