RAIL ROKO PUT OFF AGAIN - No More Talks With Centre On Telangana: KCR

Hyderabad: Prolonging the agony of the railway authorities, the Telangana Political JAC spearheading the Sakula Janula Samme (peoples strike) in support of a separate state on Tuesday put off the three-day rail roko to October 15-17.Earlier,it was scheduled to be held from October 12-14,which itself had been rescheduled from the first announced date of October 9-11.As a result,Indian Railways restored some of the services for October 12-14 but could not undo the cancellations it had already made of several long-distance trains.

But even as New Delhi is displaying some seriousness in addressing the Telangana issue for which the strike by the state government employees entered the 29day on Tuesday,a defiant TRS president KCR  cancelled his proposed visit to New Delhi for talks with the UPA leaders and announced that there will be no more talks with the Centre on the issue of Telangana. There is nothing left to talk and the only thing left for the UPA government to do is to announce the separate state, the TRC chief said and ruled out calling off the peoples strike till Telangana is achieved.

The strike continued to cripple life across the Telangana region on Tuesday. While educational institutions including in the Greater Hyderabad region are in a state of confusion due to repeated forced closure of schools and colleges by T-activists,public transport continued to be crippled with the majority of the APSRTC buses continuing to stay off the roads.A day after the National Mazdoor Union representing the major chunk of the RTC employees called off the strike amid counter claims by the T leaders, the RTC management claimed that over 500 buses were added to the 1,000 odd that are plying in Hyderabad. However, the T protesters prevented many buses from leaving the various depots.

The power crisis too continued to deteriorate with the unprecedented four to five hours power cut in the city and even more in rural areas continuing to pile on the agony of the regions residents. Thanks to the participation of the Singareni Collieries workers in the agitation, the power crisis triggered by shortage of coal is spreading outside the state with Tamil Nadu,Kerala,Karnataka and parts of Maharashtra beginning to experience power cuts.On the agriculture front, crops in 11 lakh acres in Telangana has withered, agriculture department officials said.

Congress weighing options on T

N Delhi: Congress leadership on Tuesday put its head together to examine its options on how standoff over Telangana can be resolved. AICC general secretary in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad briefed party chief Sonia Gandhi at the meeting of the core group. The party is likely to take an early decision though party managers said it need not be a solution to contentious demand for a separate state. The polarizing debate of statehood has bared fault lines within the ruling party once again.Among the leaders called for discussion, the region-wise sentiments prevailed.Sources said not much had changed in the thinking of party MPs and MLAs from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions who were opposed to separate Telangana. The leaders from the volatile region pitched their best for division of AP.
