T ministers not to quit - Say Resignations Will Hasten Presidents Rule In The State

Hyderabad: In spite of mounting pressure from the Telangana activists, political JAC and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS),senior Congress leader and panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy is unlikely to resign from the Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet. Telangana activists are after Jana Reddy to resign so that this will force the other ministers from the region to follow suit. However, according to sources, despite the campaign against him,Jana Reddy is reportedly unwilling to step down as minister on the grounds that the Centre is seriously considering the Telangana issue.
Other Telangana ministers are said to be backing him, sources said. They fear that mass resignations may lead to Presidents rule which would eventually unleash repression in the region and weaken the UPA government at the Centre. The nine Telangana ministers have concluded that they should not take any step that would vitiate the consultation process that has begun with the submission of the report by Ghulam Nabi Azad, the AICC in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs,to party president Sonia Gandhi on September 30.
A tug-of-war has been going on between the T-Congress and JAC over the resignation of the ministers for quite some time. There has been even talk that the ministers will resign after Dasara on the apprehension that the Telangana zealots would start attacking their houses to take the Sakala Janula Samme (SKS) to a new height. In fact, the houses of several ministers from the region and their convoys have become target of attacks. But till now,the ministers have not buckled under the pressure.

According to the sources, the Telangana Political JAC and TRS think that resignation of the ministers en masse would lead to a political crisis. But the Telangana Congress leaders want to give more time to their leadership and UPA government to sort out the knotty issue. At any cost,2014 is the deadline for the formation of Telangana state. The 2014 elections will result in Telangana, whoever forms the government at the Centre. So,creating a political crisis at this juncture is not warranted, said a Telangana minister. So far the T-ministers in the cabinet have worked as shock absorbers as far as the movement is concerned.Once we step down, there will not be any voice to represent Telangana in the government and this may lead to the repression of the movement, a senior minister told TOI.According to the minister, the Center is pretty well aware that a point of no return has reached as far as the Telangana state is concerned. We,as the Congress ministers, will utilize the opportunity to give more feed back on the situation in the region and the damage being done to the Congress for stalling the separate state demand, the minister said.

Governor in Delhi amid Prez rule speculation

Amid speculation that the state might be brought under Presidents rule, Governor ESL Narasimhan left for New Delhi on Friday evening and is expected to brief PM Manmohan Singh and other Congress leaders on Saturday about the situation in the state in the backdrop of the Telangana stir. Sources said it was the PM who summoned Narasimhan to take stock of the present situation in the state. He is expected to call on Singh on Saturday and may also discuss the law and order situation in the state with Home minister P Chidambaram and finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. Narasimhan is also expected to call on UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.Earlier in the morning, Governor visited Tirumala before leaving for New Delhi.Speaking to the media there,Narasimhan said he has not given any report on Telangana to theCentre.Officials who were accompanying the Governor had some anxious moments when Narasimhan slipped during the darshan, reportedly due to high blood pressure, but the Governors office later said all was well with Narasimhans health.
