TVS turns down TRS overtures

The efforts ofTelangana Rashtra Samithi to woo the Telangana Vimochana Samithi (TVS),which was formed by rebel leaders last year, seem to have failed. A senior leader told TOI that some intellectuals of Telangana political JAC were asked to hold talks with TVS leader K Dilip Kumar and convince him to merge his party with the TRS.The TRS has been working in this direction by holding talking with the TVS leaders and intellectuals for the last three months. The TRS wants to consolidate its position and bring all the small parties and groups supporting the cause of separate Telangana under one umbrella to launch a united fight for a separate state after December 31 in case the Srikrishna Committee report goes against their aspirations.

The partys strategy to woo leaders from other parties like the Congress and TDP has succeeded and several of them are joining TRS.Similarly, its confident that it would be able to convince TVS to merge with it,a senior leader said. Talking to TOI,Dilip Kumar said that though there were feelers from TRS,he was not willing to merge with TRS.According to him,a separate state would be possible only with the efforts of non political parties. Dilip Kumar was once close to K Chandrasekhar Rao and was even nominated as MLC.He raised a banner of revolt against KCR after TRS got a drubbing in the 2009 elections and resigned from the party.Other leaders who had quit TRS along with Dilip were A Prakash and Bellaya Naik. They later formed TVS.KCR successfully convinced all rebel leaders except Dilip and brought them back to his party fold.

At the height of the separate state agitation in December last,TVS leaders joined the newly-formed Telangana political JAC and participated in the agitation. The TRS leaders now propose to organise a one-to-one meeting between KCR and Dilip soon so that the merger can become a reality.
