T Congmen to boycott AP Formation Day

Serious political trouble seems to be brewing for chief minister K Rosaiah with Congress MLAs and his cabinet colleagues from Telangana region now on a decidedly aggressive path. This became clear after a meeting chaired by CWC member K Keshava Rao on Sunday, where Congress MPs,MLAs,MLCs from T region decided to observe September 17 as Telangana Vimochana Divas and boycott AP Formation Day celebrations on November 1.They also demanded that the government agree to celebrate this day as an official function. The minister for small scale industries D K Aruna represented the T ministers in the cabinet. The meeting also issued an ultimatum to the state government to withdraw all cases booked against the students who participated in the recent separate Telangana agitation by October 2,2010.It also resolved to resort to direct action against the government if the demand was not acceded to.

The meeting adopted a resolution urging the high command to constitute a separate Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC ) for Telangana region as a prelude to the formation of separate state.A delegation of party leaders will soon meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi and submit a memorandum on the issue. The meeting also congratulated Sonia Gandhi on being reelected as president of the party. The meeting of these leaders assumes importance since it was held to discuss the strategies to carry forward the T movement post-December 31 when the Srikrishna committee constituted to study the political situation in the state would be submitting its report to the central government.

The meeting further resolved to give financial help to the families of those students who committed suicide or self-immolation for the cause of Telangana since November 2009. A fund will be created into which all MPs will contribute Rs 2 lakhs each while MLAs and MLCs will donate one months salary, said Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy,MP from Bhongir constituency after the meeting.

MLA Kitchennagari Lakshma Reddy announced Rs 10 lakh towards fund. Former members will contribute one months pension.Funds will also be collected from the public and other Congress leaders for the cause, Rajagopal Reddy added. He said a three-member committee would be constitute to collect the funds and to disburse the money to the families. Replying to a question,he said, this programme was not sponsored by the Congress party nor would it create any problem for the state government or the PCC.The first payment to the deceased family will be made on October 2 either at Karimnagar or Ramagundam where all such affected families in the district will be invited at one venue,he said. He said sub-committees would be formed to study the reports submitted by the various groups, including the Congress, from Rayalaseema and Andhra regions and prepare a counter every point raised by these groups opposing carving of a separate state, Rajagopal Reddy said.

According to party spokesperson B Kamalakar Rao,the meeting also urged the state government to cancel the Group-1 examination and not to conduct it till the issue of regional reservation was solved.
