Politics of Glamour-Trouble in TRS as KCR plans big role for Vijayashanti

Fresh trouble seems to be brewing in TRS over the proposed elevation of MP Vijayashanti as partys secretary general. The position would once again place her as the second in command in the party hierarchy. Party sources told TOI that KCR had reportedly decided to nominate Vijayashanti to the coveted post during reconstitution of TRS state panels in the third week of May. Senior party leaders raised objection to KCRs proposal to reappoint Vijayashanti TRS secretary general at a meeting held after the partys ninth Foundation Day celebrations on April 28. Their contention was that Vijayashanti occupied the partys secretary general position after she merged Talli Telangana with TRS before the 2009 elections. But after the elections she was forced to quit for resorting to anti-party activities. It was alleged that the actor-turned-politician had tried to join the Congress but her efforts did not bear fruits as Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had died in a chopper crash last September. Source said KCR was of the view that Vijayashanti was a popular film star and also a crowd puller and hence she would be the right choice for the second-in-command post. But, senior leaders say that she lacks commitment to the party.

They also objected to Vijayashantis comments at the party Foundation Day celebrations wherein she said that KCR should bring changes in the style of functioning of the party and expressed concern over the poor representation for women in TRS. Her comments at the meeting had indirectly questioned KCRs leadership.The services of Vijayashanti are required for the party. But it does not need to allocate such a high position to her in the present situation.She only adds glamour to the party with her film background a senior leader from Warangal quipped. He said in the present situation party requires a strong leader to look after party affairs along with KCR. He observed that Telangana Praja Samithi (TPS) leader A Narendra was second in command in TRS after merging his party and also worked along with KCR for sometime. However, he was expelled from the party when his name figured in sensational human trafficking and fake passport cases in 2007. Sources said the other names which are under consideration for the top post are: Captain Laxmikanta Rao, G Vijayarama Rao and N Narasimha Reddy. However, a final decision will be taken by KCR after conducting meetings with all leaders before announcing the committees.

SRIKRISHNA PANEL -T Cong leaders to stand united

All Telangana Congress leaders will appear before the Justice Srikrishna Committee as single group. This was decided at a meeting of senior Congress leaders chaired by PCC president D Srinivas. Even the name Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee would not be used while presenting their views, G Chinna Reddy, convenor of TRCCC,said after the meeting. Even though there is no official confirmation, the party is expected to appear before the committee on May 13 for an oral presentation of their stand on the creation of a separate state. Earlier, Congress leaders from the region submitted their reports separately. MLAs and MPs presented their own separate views. And the PCC office bearers from the region also submitted their version on the separate state issue. We want to avoid this multitude of reports, Chinna Reddy said. The party devised an elaborate strategy to present various aspects of Telangana that need attention of the committee, said party MLC A R Amos.
