Divergent views on T: Naidu faces trouble

Telangana issue has returned to haunt TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu even as he is championing the farmers cause in New Delhi. On Monday, the partys leaders crossed swords yet again with Palakurty MLA E Dayakar Rao renewing his threat to prevent Congress Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy from entering Warangal district in view of his anti-Telangana stand even as several others condemned it.
Despite being castigated by Rajya Sabha MP and member of the NTR clan N Harikrishna on Sunday, Dayakar Rao on Monday upped the ante by stating that Jagans father and former CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy had done much damage to Warangal district, and hence, his son cannot be allowed to enter the district. The Kadapa MP is slated to undertake a five-day visit to Warangal district beginning May 28 as part of his Odarpu Yatra to meet the family members of those who died due to alleged shock or committed suicide following the demise of YSR in September last year. Jagan has already visited East Godavari and Khammam districts but his first foray into the Telangana region is being fiercely opposed by the TRS and Telangana leaders of the TDP. Even within the ruling party, Telangana Congress leaders have already appealed to Jagan to call off his tour on the apprehension that it will stoke further unrest in the region. The divide on the issue within the TDP intensified on Monday with Tadikonda legislator P Linga Reddy and TDP spokesperson N Rajkumari disapproving Dayakars threat. From the Telangana region, while Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy said political leaders should have the freedom to visit all the three regions of the state, Nagarkurnool MLA N Janardhan Reddy, who is perceived to be the leader of the group championing the Telangana cause in the TDP, shied away from speaking on the issue.
Responding to the letter written to him by Harikrishna on his opposition to Jagans yatra, Dayakar Rao said he would talk to the NTR scion and explain to him the prevailing sentiment of the people against the entry of anti-separate state leaders like Jagan.

Both the groups are slated to meet Naidu on Tuesday after his return from New Delhi, where he had gone to meet PM Manmohan Singh and Union commerce minister Anand Sharma seeking their interven-tion in solving the problems of the farmers of the state. Naidus evasive stance on Telangana is weaken-ing his hold on the party and emboldening challengers like Balakrishna, an insider said. According to sources, Naidu will persuade Dayakar Rao to give up his opposition to Jagans visit on the plea that this will embarrass the TDP. At the same time, he will also urge the Andhra leaders to observe restraint as Jagan is not a party MP. But Naidu cannot force any decision on the Palakurty MLA since it will be construed as being anti-Telangana. Difficult days are ahead for the TDP chief,  said a party insider.
