KCR to skip Jai Andhra meeting

TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday took a U-turn and decided to keep away from the Jai Andhra movement meeting scheduled to be held in Vijayawada on May 29. KCR, who had given his consent to K Padma Rao who is organising the meeting on behalf of Jai Andhra Dalit Mahasabha and Andhra Rashtra Sadhana Samiti, however, decided against it following strong opposition from political and student JAC and other Telangana organisations.Rao, according to party sources, felt that if he goes ahead with his earlier plan it might go against his partys interests in the by-elections to the 12 Assembly seats to be held in July or August. TRS senior leader E Rajender told TOI that this decision was taken to respect the majority opinion of the organisations that were fighting for separate state. Rajender said that the general opinion expressed by all these organisations that participation of KCR in the meeting would send wrong signals and appear as if T organisations were seeking the help of Jai Andhra leaders for bifurcation of the state.

TRS has been relentlessly fighting for separate state for a decade now, Rajender said. He may also have to face allegations that he is trying to dilute the movement in collusion with Andhra leaders hence, the decision to keep away from the meeting, Rajender said. The T organisations also threatened to boycott KCRs Pallebata tour to be launched during the first week of June.
