High command summons MPs present at T meet

Hours after eight Congress MPs,12 MLAs (including two ministers) and 11 MLCs from Telangana renewed their threat to resign from their elected posts if the UPA government does not introduce a Bill on Telangana in the Budget session of Parliament,a worried party high command summoned the MPs to New Delhi on Wednesday. Senior party leader and Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee will meet these MPs in New Delhi on Wednesday and persuade them to take back their resignation threat, said an AICC source. The high commands decision to summon these MPs was also an admission that mission of Union urban development minister S Jaipal Reddy to Hyderabad to persuade the T leaders to tone down their rhetoric had failed.

Going by the mood at a meeting here on Tuesday,it would require a lot of persuasion from the high command to quieten these leaders who are facing the heat from the electorate on the separate state issue.Almost 1,000 elected Congress representatives from the region attended Tuesdays meeting at which the MPs,MLAs and MLCs vowed that there was no going back on their threat to resign.Of the 12 Congress Lok Sabha MPs from the region,8 attended the meeting. The absentees were Union minister Jaipal Reddy,Anjan Kumar Yadav,Sarve Satyanarayana and Suresh Shetkar. Two Rajya Sabha MPs,K Keshava Rao and V Hanumantha Rao were present.Among the 12 MLAs who attended were ministers K Jana Reddy and Jupalli Krishna Rao.In fact, minister Krishna Rao urged all the Congress MLAs and MPs from the region to insist on their resignations.

Panel members paid money to tilt T report, says Yaskhi

The MPs who addressed the gathering included Ponnam Prabhakar,M Satyanarayana,S Rajaiah,B Naik and Madhu Yashki and they said there was no change in their stand on their resignations. Referring to  Srikrishna Committee report,Madhu Yashki said that some people had paid money to the committee members to tilt the report against Telangana. I have specific information that money was given to some of the panel members and their sons and a portion of it was paid in Dubai, Yashki told the gathering. The leaders later passed a resolution, demanding that a T Bill be tabled in the Budget session. It was also resolved to begin agitations across the region after Sankranti. These Congress leaders were joined by a delegation of Osmania University students JAC whose representatives said that they were now being targeted by authorities on the basis of their accent.

Put off judges recruitment test

Telangana advocates JAC convener and member of AP Bar Council M Rajender Reddy on Tuesday urged the A P High Court to postpone the written test for recruitment of district judges scheduled to be held on Jan 23 citing unrest in Telangana. In a written representation to the HC registrar general,he said conducting the test in the prevailing surcharged atmosphere would harm the interests of the candidates.
Several advocates who are supposed to take the test in both the Telangana and Seemandhra regions are in the forefront of the agitation and are greatly distracted by the turmoil. Therefore, the exam should be postponed,Rajender Reddy said.In view of the separate statehood issue, the state has been witnessing unrest. So we cannot expect the candidates to write the exam in a peaceful manner. He urged the authorities to conduct the exam only when normalcy is restored. He reminded the authorities of the postponement of the recruitment test for SIs following pressure from T students.
