A call to close down all educational institutions, commercial establishments and cinemas has been given. The only exemption will be essential supplies like milk, water, hospitals and ambulance services. Train services to New Delhi from Hyderabad and Secunderabad stations will be affected. The bandh is likely to become a success as it has got support from all political parties.TDP Telangana forum convener N Janardhan Reddy on Monday extended his support to the bandh.Calling upon people to actively participate in the bandh,BJP state president G Kishan Reddy urged his party activists to ensure success of the bandh.

Advocates torch rly ticket counter

The Chalo Assembly on Monday saw students of Osmania University and police engaged in pitched battles. Some students even torched a bogie of an MMTS train at Jamia Osmania. In the meantime,a little after 1 pm,scores of advocates and other protesters alighted at the Sanjeevaiah Park and Necklace Road railway stations in MMTS trains with the intention of marching to the assembly. Within minutes, those who got down at the Necklace Road station went on the rampage inside while those who alighted at the Sanjeeviah Park station went berserk on the outside of Necklace Road station. The protesters set fire to one of the two reservation counters, resulting in a few computers, chairs and stationery getting gutted. They also tried to attack the second reservation counter near Park Hotel.Heavy stone-pelting by the protesters led to several glasspanes in the station getting damaged, even as panicked commuters ran helter skelter.

The rampaging lasted for 20 minutes and even before the cops could arrive at the scene, the protesters had fled. Meanwhile, students from Nizam College resorted to stone-pelting at Basheerbagh crossroads around 12.30 pm and the security personnel responded with teargas shells and stun grenades.Towards the evening, the violence returned to OU campus with the students fighting pitched battles with the cops near B hostel after damaging a few RTC buses and a Maruti showroom on the Habsiguda side. JAC SETS FEB 24 FOR STATE GOVT RESPONSE - Govt holds talks with staff unions

The state government faces a tricky situation with the pro-Telangana government employees refusing to call off their five-dayold non-cooperation agitation on Monday. As the agitation by these employees had severely affected the services in all the departments in general and the revenue earning departments in particular, resulting in a loss of about Rs 700 crore to the exchequer till Monday, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy asked the cabinet sub-committee to hold talks with the unions and see that the agitation was called off.
The cabinet sub-committee consisting of ministers,Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, N Raghuveera Reddy, Damodar Rajanarsimha,Mukesh Goud and Danam Nagender held about one-hour long talks with the employees representatives and reiterated that the government was committed to implement all the assurances it had made on the floor of the assembly and other promises made since 2004 to make amends to the injustice meted out to the employees of the region.  But this assurance did not cut any ice with the employees who demanded the government to make a statement ensuring a 42% share for Telangana in all the government jobs, implement GO 610 and repatriate non-Telangana employees to their parent cadre, and issue orders declaring Hyderabad as sixth zone.

In addition, they wanted the government to take a delegation to New Delhi so that they can meet the prime minister and urge the Union government to take necessary constitutional measures on issues that were beyond the purview of the state government.President of employees JAC,K Swamy Goud later said that they would wait till February 24 for governments response. Later, the ministers said they had drawn the attention of the employees unions towards the problems being faced by the common man particularly in regard to welfare activities like issue of ration cards, getting various certificates from mandal officers, issue of Aadhar cards, sanitation work, census enumeration, land registrations, and other works. The union representatives, however, did not give any indication or assurance to exempt such services from the movement.
