In another round of embarrassment for chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy,Telangana ministers on Saturday decided to skip the budget session of the assembly for one day and go to New Delhi to convey to the party leadership the discontent in the region over the Congress'stance on the separate state issue.
Already, 22 MLAs and 6 MLCs skipped the governor's address to the joint session of the assembly and council on February 17. They were of the view that Telangana was more important to them than attend the House for the governor's address. The date of the ministers' trip to Delhi will be announced in a couple of days. In the backdrop of the non-cooperation movement being organised by the Telangana JAC, TRS, employees and people, Telangana ministers met at residence of sr minister K Jana Reddy on Saturday to evolve a strategy to convince the people of the region that they were not indifferent to the statehood issue.
The meeting discussed how the non-cooperation movement was affecting the functioning of the government as the employees were actively taking part in it.The MLAs,who returned to Hyderabad on Friday night from Delhi after meeting the core committee members, briefed the ministers as to what transpired in their meetings in the national capital.MPs K Keshava Rao,G Sukhender Reddy and GVivek were also present in the meeting, which urged people to call off the non-cooperation movement, assuring that they would go to any extent to achieve Telangana. "Continued silence on the issue will harm the prospects of the party in the forthcoming elections to local bodies,"said Keshava Rao. According to him, the meeting adopted an action plan to mount pressure on the leadership. "First, all the ministers decided to immediately write a letter to the party leaders explaining the gravity of the situation in the region. Later, sometime next week, the ministers will skip the budget session for one day and go to Delhi to meet party president Sonia Gandhi and PM Manmohan Singh,"Rao said.
Sukhender Reddy urged the Centre to take steps to prevent situation from going out of hand. Arepalli Mohan, Karimanagar MLA who also was part of the group that went to Delhi, hoped that the central leadership would soon realise the need to take an early and positive decision on Telangana. Jana Reddy said the people of region were not prepared to accept anything less than a separate state. Ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah,Jupalli Krishna Rao,Sunitha Lakshma Reddy,D K Aruna,Basavaraj Saraiah and Ramireddy Venkata Reddy were present in the meeting.
