Parties different views on T stump Srikrishna panel

The divergent views of political leaders on the demand to divide AP to create Telangana appears to have stumped the Srikrishna Committee. Parties have expressed different views. Now the real problem before us is to assess which view be given how much weightage. But we will sort it out, panel chairman justice (retd) B N Srikrishna said while addressing media before embarking on a two-day consultation with the PRP and the Left parties. Justice Srikrishna was referring to the views being expressed by various Congress and TDP leaders in their individual or collective capacity depending on the region they belonged to. While the debate and leaders were initially divided along Telangana and Andhra-Seema regions, leaders from Rayalaseema have slowly parted ways and, hence, the three regions are now ranged against each other. The various recommendations submitted reflect three different views on the issue, a source said.Significantly, in view of the polarisation on regional lines within the party, both Congress and TDP have refrained from presenting an official view. In its efforts to carry along all, the panel has not insisted on an official stance from parties. This is now going to make their task difficult as it has to take a call either on division or keeping the state united. And the panel should think about this while letting parties get away without committing, said a source.

On Friday, all the five members of the committee will meet the CPM. On Thursday, it heard the views of PRP and CPI. The panel is slated to hold more talks with parties in July. Before that,it will meet all non-political organisations and stakeholders in the second week of May.

PRP presents case before Srikrishna panel

The Prajarajyam Party on Thursday met the Srikrishna Committee at the Lake View Guest House to strengthen their submission for a unified state. A 22-member PRP team accompanied PRP president K Chiranjeevi to elaborate on the comprehensive 90-page report, which it had submitted to the Srikrishna Committee in New Delhi last week. Addressing reporters after the 100-minute interaction with the committee,Chiranjeevi said they expressed their view points on important subjects like irrigation, river water sharing, education, employment, Govt. jobs and allocation of funds. The party also reiterated the need for a national policy on smaller states and not limit it to Andhra Pradesh. They raised the issue of the controversial stand of Union home minister P Chidambaram on smaller states. The party asked the committee to study the merits and demerits of creating smaller states and examine the significant impact it would have on the country.
