D-DATE : APRIL 16 - TRS gears up for T panel hearing : KCR & Jayashankar To Pitch For T State

TRS will be first political party to appear before the Srikrishna committee to explain why it is seeking a separate Telangana state. The party president K Chandrasekhar Rao along with party ideologue K Jaya shankar will appear before the panel on April 16. According to party sources, KCR has received an invitation from committee member-secretary V K Duggal to make his presentation at New Delhi. The TRS has already submitted a 1000-page jumbo report to the committee on the need to bifurcate the state. According to party sources,KCR was making preparations to highlight injustice meted out to Telangana and will explain how the region was deprived of agricultural facilities, education, employment opport-unities by the successive governments and how they failed to implement the special provisions like 610 GO and Gentlemens agreement. While GO 610 relates to reservation of jobs for local people in Govt. departments, as per the Gentlemens agreement, a deputy chief minister should have been appointed from T region. As the successive governments failed to implement these two agreements causing immense loss to the region, the party feels.

Party ideologue Jayashankar will present a detailed analysis on the slow development of Telangana as compared to other regions with statistics. He will talk about lack of irrigation facilities, low allocations for housing, rural development, education and welfare and will counter the arguments of the leaders from Andhra and Rayalaseema, who claim that Telangana cannot be considered backward and that there were more backward areas in the other two regions. He will also explain about the political coup of the then Andhra and Rayalaseema Congress leaders which resulted in Telanganas merger with Andhra state in 1956. Meanwhile, KCR asked all the district cadre to raise local issues like energy crisis, drinking water and other civic problems during campaign for by-elections in 10 assembly constituencies from where TRS MLAs had resigned recently in protest against the constitution of Srikrishna committee by Centre. The bypolls are scheduled to be held before August.

BLAME IT ON TERMS OF REFERENCE -Multiple reports for T panel: PRP lashes out at Cong, TDP

The Prajarajyam Party on Sunday lashed out at Congress and TDP for resorting to political opportunism and accused them of making a mockery of democracy. Political Affairs Committee member C Ramacha-ndraiah and other party leaders said both parties failed to submit the official views of their respective parties to the fivemember Srikrishna Committee, despite conclusion of the last day for receipt of views for or against the bifurcation of the state. The PRP leaders found fault with the terms of reference of the Srikrishna Committee which did not insist that it would receive only a single representation from each of the recognised political parties. It seems as if the terms of reference have been formulated only to help the Congress party, Ramachandraiah said. Both parties know that their respective view points are very significant for the committee to come to a conclusion. We urge TDP and Congress to give a public explanation on the need for them to allow multiple representations to the Srikrishna Committee from each of the regions. Please make your political philosophy public, Ramachandraiah demanded.

The actions of the chiefs of both these parties are condemnable and should be up for public scrutiny,he said and added that in a parliamentary democracy such actions by responsible political parties would result in political vacuum. The PRP leaders said Congress party had repeatedly been keeping people of the state in the dark for years by always eliciting the views of other political parties, while it kept itself at a safe distance from the issue. The PRP called upon the general public to think whether they needed the services of both the TDP and Congress that have unabashedly been endorsing rank political opportunism. How can the committee arrive at a conclusion, when the ruling Congress and opposition TDP have given diverse view points on such a sensitive issue, they questioned.
