The state will see two more Odarpu programmes during the next two weeks beginning Saturday.Though not named so,the Saturday Odarpu will be an exercise by the Congress party leaders in Telangana to meet the families of those youths who committed suicide for the cause of separate Telangana during the November-December 2009 agitation and give them financial assistance. This will be followed by the AICC-sponsored Odarpu yatra to assist those who died due to shock or committed suicide following the death of former CM Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in a chopper crash in September 2009.This would be taken up from mid-October and will be on the lines of the Odarpu yatra of YSRs son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
The T-Odarpu is being planned in a big way and will be held at Karimnagar on October 2.More than 200 students allegedly committed suicide during the Telangana agitation.The Congress party will give Rs one lakh to each family.The MPs have donated about Rs one lakh each while the legislators have contributed their one month salary. About 65 families from the district are expected to get assistance on Saturday.The entire galaxy of Congress leaders,MPs,MLAs,MLCs,ministers and other senior leaders from Telangana will participate in the programme.
After paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan,all leaders will go to Karimnagar according to K R Amos,MLC and spokesperson of Congress Action Forum for Telangana.Later on,a similar programme will be organised every Sunday at the district headquarters and in ten weeks all the ten Telangana districts will be covered, he said. Meanwhile,the AICC has prepared a list of persons who died of shock or committed suicide in the aftermath of the demise of YSR.The party identified 490 such deaths.However,the official Odarpu will not consist of public meetings.It will be a simple ceremony at the district headquarters.Families of the victims will be invited to the programmes and cheques will be handed over to them,the sources said.
