Hyderabad: Batukamma,a colourful festival unique to the people of Telangana,will henceforth be celebrated as an official festival in all the ten district headquarters of Telangana region. In a bid to appease Telangana protagonists,the state government on Friday issued a GO sanctioning Rs 10 lakh for the purpose,Rs one lakh per district.The department of youth advancement in association with district cultural councils along with women self-help groups (SGHs),schoolchildren,folk artistes,etc., will organise various functions to mark the festival.
Batukamma Panduga is celebrated by the womenfolk of Telangana 2 days before Dasara. They pray to Goddess Gowri, thanking her for showering blessings on their families and for good tidings in the future.
