KCR begins T Jaitrayatra

A day after assault on non-T teachers on OU campus,TRS president KChandrasekhar Rao on Sunday began his Telangana Jaitrayatra with a call for a renewed round of agitation and to strengthen the party. In the first-leg of yatra,KCR attended a meeting in his Mahbubnagar Parliamentary constituency and admitted some party activists from Congress and TDP. This tour of KCR,party leaders say is to know the pulse of people after the byelection since there was a criticism that TRS was not strong enough in majority of districts in Telangana.KCR will tour Mahbubnagar,Khammam,Nalgonda,Ranga Reddy and parts of Medak,Nizamabad and Adilabad where party does not have a strong cadre.

As per the TRS study, the Telangana party was weak in the districts where the Reddy community was dominating district politics. In Nalgonda,Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts and part of Medak district Reddy community plays a dominant role in politics. While in Khammam and parts of Nizamabad, Kamma community plays an important role.Another TRS leader said that the yatra will also help the party in gearing up for launching second phase of T movement after Dec 31 if the Centre did not respond positively to the formation of T state based on Srikrishna Committee report.

KCR urges PC to withdraw cases against T students

TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday met Union home minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi and urged him to withdraw cases registered against students and party workers who participated in the Telangana agitation in December 2009. Speaking to newsmen after the meeting,KCR claimed that Chidambaram agreed to withdraw cases after consulting chief minister K Rosaiah and state DGP RR Girish Kumar. According to KCR,Chidambaram assured him that he would meet the DGP who was also in New Delhi as part of the two-day national conference of state police heads on Thursday night and discuss the issue.Cases have been booked against students of Telangana and Andhra regions when the state was in turmoil in both the regions. TRS leader said the delegation including the representatives of Telangana student JAC would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submit a memorandum urging him to render justice to the students.KCR demanded an all-party meeting on the issue. He will meet the chief minister after returning to the city.

Meanwhile, party MP Vijayashanti met BJP leader LK Advani and discussed about the political situation in the state and the byelection results. Vijayashanti is learnt to have told Advani that TRS will go with BJP on issue based programmes, including strengthening the Telangana movement and agitations on anti-people policies.

JAC against celebrating AP Formation Day

Buoyed by the stupendous success of Telangana protagonists in the recent by-polls,Telangana Joint Action Committee convener Kodandaram sounded a warning against celebrating the Andhra Pradesh Formation Day on November 1. Speaking to TOI,Kodandaram said the people of Telangana consider November 1,1956 as the Vidroha Dinam (Betrayal Day). The time has come to stop this annual farce. We will ensure that the AP Formation Day is not celebrated in Telangana.Any attempt to do otherwise will be met with angry protests, he said. Now that people have given their verdict once again in favour of separate Telangana, the government should realise that it would be wrong to go against their wishes. Telangana people were never in favour of Andhra Pradesh. This was forced on them, the JAC convener said. On BJP and TRS demand that September 17 be celebrated as Telangana Liberation Day, Kodanda ram said: My personal view is that September 17 should be celebrated or marked as Integration Day.On that day in 1948,Hyderabad state was integrated with the Indian Union. That day,the state came out of the feudal rule. The struggle was not against the Nizam because he was a Muslim. The struggle was against the Nizam as he symbolised the feudal setup of the day.

The JAC would be meeting soon to discuss the question of Liberation Day with its member organizations as it would not like to divide the people on this issue.  We are not concerned about what the Srikrishna Committee is going to recommend. Our objective is to exert pressure on the UPA government to listen to the voices of the people and decide accordingly. Therefore, the next three to four months are crucial. To keep the issue burning,we would like to continue organizing protests in different forms from village to city level, Kodandaram said.

He is of the view that many of the leaders who left JAC due to pressure from their political parties would return to the JAC fold soon. The byelection results have changed the political scenario. The TDP did not respond to the ground realities and suffered humiliating defeats. The case was similar with the Congress. The lesson from these elections for the TDP and the Congress is that being snooty doesnt pay.If you go against public sentiment, they would never allow you to win, he pointed out. The fresh round of struggle that was triggered in December last year has changed public perception about democracy and social justice.People now want their representatives to be accountable. If these representatives do not fulfil their promises, they would face public wrath, Kodandaram warned.

Now,a film to pep up Telangana movement

A film to fan the embers of the Telangana movement is scheduled to be released in December.Srikrishna Committee formed to study the demand for separate state of Telangana is to submit its report by December 31.Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao has already threatened that he will unleash a war in case the Srikrishna panel does not recommend creation of Telangana.Slated for release in December, the film titled Jai Bolo Telangana can add to the pressure on the committee which is looking into the issue.Interestingly, several film personalities from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions were present at the launch of the film here on Thursday. They included noted director K Raghavendra Rao,who sounded the clap board.Movie Artistes Association (MAA) president M Murali Mohan, director E V V Satyanarayana, producer K S Rama Rao and others.Writer Paruchuri Gopalakrishna who hails from Krishna district in the Andhra region explained that he was a student of Osmania University and that he understood the feelings of the people of the region for a separate state. The man with an acerbic tongue who pours vitriol against anyone coming in the way of a separate Telangana state being achieved,KCR,has penned the lyrics for a song for the movie. However, neither KCR nor TRS MP Vijayashanti made it to the launch of the film.KCRs daughter Kavitha and son K Tarakarama Rao were among a host of Telangana movement leaders who were present at the launch at a private building at Begumpet. The film, being produced by N Shankar, was launched amidst much fanfare.Shankar, who hails from Nalgonda district, had shot to fame with his very first film Encounter dealing with the subject of Naxalites some years ago.For his latest film on T,Shankar selected his artistes through a casting call. The film will be made in the backdrop of the T movement and also the participation of students in the struggle, Shankar said.It may be mentioned here that after the Telangana movement gathered momentum, more films on the subject are being made and released.

Jagan camp may back AP division - Master Plan To Help Kadapa MP Become Seemandhra CM

Virtually conceding that the post of chief minister is beyond his grasp, the Y S Jaganmohan Reddy camp is veering round to the view that supporting the division of the state would raise the Kadapa MPs hopes of becoming chief minister of the new Andhra-Rayalaseema state. If the state is divided, the Congress would have a strength of 106 out of the total 175 MLAs of the new Seemandhra state with 32 of them from the Rayalaseema region. With this number, the Congress can easily form the government without taking the support of parties like PRP.And with 80 per cent of the Congress MLAs from these two regions on his side,we hope that Jagan could realise his dream in the new state. And such an eventuality would also put to rest any possible demand for division of Rayalaseema from the Andhra region, said a Jagan loyalist. With this idea in mind, the Jagan camp is reportedly working to identify loyal workers right from the mandal level in these two regions so that the machinery is in place if and when the division of the state takes place. We are putting this plan into action as we are sure now that Jagan has no chance of succeeding Rosaiah as the CM of the undivided AP, conceded the loyalist. Two factors are said to have contributed to the Jagan camp coming to this realisation. One,that Jagan has rubbed the Congress high command including president Sonia Gandhi the wrong way with his aggressive campaign for the CMs post and chartering an independent line with his Odarpu yatra, and two, that the Kadapa MP has virtually become a persona non grata in the Telangana region.

By totally ignoring his claims for the CMs post, the high command has made it amply clear that even after Rosaiah, they might consider somebody else for the top post but not Jagan.According to AICC sources, although the high command is totally disapproving the stubborn attitude of Jagan,it does not want to take action against him as it feels that it would only strengthen his hands. The second factor is the antipathy of the people of the Telangana region to not only Jagan, but to all those including TDP and PRP chiefs N Chandrababu Naidu and Chiranjeevi respectively, who have opposed the division of the state. The Mahbubabad incident was a major setback to Jagan. The Kadapa MPs detractors have succeeded in permanently closing the gates of Telangana on him.The incident even unnerved his staunch supporters from Telangana. We cannot enter the region in the near future, admitted sources.

The Jagan camp is now eagerly waiting to see what is in store for Naidu and Chiranjeevi, both of whom are scheduled to visit Khammam district in the coming week to hold protest against leasing of Bayyaram mines allegedly to a firm in which the YSR family has a stake. While Naidus visit is scheduled for Aug 30,the PRP chief is slated to visit Khammam the following day. The Jagan camp thinks that both Naidu and Chiranjeevi will meet the same fierce resistance from the people of Telangana as he got at Mahbubabad when he set off on his Odarpu yatra.Incidentally, the TRS has already announced that it would not allow Naidu and Chiranjeevi to enter Khammam as they are anti-Telangana in essence. In this situation, working for united Andhra Pradesh is sheer waste of energy and time.We are of the view that agreeing for the division of the state is the best solution for Jagan to advance his political career, said the sources and also ruled out the MP leaving the Congress or taking the help of parties like BJP.

MANY TOP T LEADERS LIKELY TO JOIN TRS - Trouble brewing for TDP in Telangana

The major opposition TDP appears to be in for a major shock in the next few days.If claim by TRS is of any indication then some MLAs from Adilabad and Karimnagar and a former MLA from Warangal Distt are likely to quit the party and join TRS soon after the return of KCR from his New Delhi visit.

Among those who may join TRS,they claim are Dr N Sudhakar Rao, former MLA from Warangal, Mudhole MLA S Venugopalachari and J Ramana from Adilabad district,Choppadandi MLA S Devaiah and G Kamalakar from Karimnagar.Even the name of E Dayakar Rao from Warangal district is being mentioned in TRS circles but Rao and Ramana refuted this as malicious propaganda.

However,TDP young turk A Revanth Reddy rubbished this as a cheap and dirty trick being played by TRS.According to him the TRS has been trying its best to woo TDP cadre but has not been successful. KCR is trying to rope in a few lower rung workers, Revanth said.He said there was no question of any big leader quitting the party. The byelections is no indicator of TRS strength.People voted in favour of
T state and not for TRS.Adilabad and Karimnagar are among the strongholds of TDP and there is no question of anyone leaving the party,he added.

But the fact remains that some ZPTC and MPTC members in T had quit TDP and switched over to TRS in the last few days.Even on Wednesday about 100 TDP workers are said to have joined TRS. TDP has been facing a tough time in the region ever since the bypoll results were out. While the TRS has been on the offensive, none of the TDP leaders including N Janardhan Reddy or E Dayakar Rao have been rebutting the criticism made by KCR.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had on many occasions pulled up the party leaders on this issue but still no one was willing to take on TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao

LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj.

For Tolly bosses, all roads lead to TRS - Several Biggies Seek TRS President K Chandrasekhar Raos Protection Of Land Allotted By Previous Governments

Virtually conceding that TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao calls the shots in Telangana region, big wigs of Tollywood are making a beeline to meet him and extract an assurance that the projects they are planning on government land allotted to them over the years will not be disrupted or opposed by his party. Those who have called on him during the last few days or spoken to him over phone or through intermediaries include film actor Nagarjuna, producer K Raghavendra Rao,veteran actor G Krishna, studios owner L V Prasad and comedian-turned-producer Ganesh. All of them were allotted prime land by the state government during the last three decades with the idea of encouraging Tollywood to shift from Chennai and set up base in Hyderabad. However, many of them did not utilise the land for the purpose for which it was allotted or have kept it idle.

Since Telangana movement picking the steam over the last many months, the TRS has been targeting several Tollywood bigwigs, charging that the land which was allotted to them should be taken back by the state and given back to the farmers. The latest trigger for the Tollywood bigwigs to call on KCR was the recent incident at the land owned by actor Srikanth in Ranga Reddy district, where Congress and TRS flags sprang up last week.Apprehending that they too will be targeted next, these big names have decided to make moves of appeasement of the TRS leadership, said sources. Calling on KCR at the latters residence two days ago, film hero Nagarjuna sought the TRS chief s cooperation to establish multiplex including big malls and cinema theatres at Annapurna studios located at Banjara Hills areas.Annapurna Studios had been allotted 22 acres of prime land as part of the campaign to promote the film industry in the early 1980s.

The state government had recently allowed construction of a multiplex in the studio premises. The TRS had raised a hue and cry over it on the grounds that it was against the agreement signed between state Govt. and land owners. Nagarjuna came to KCRs house and invited him to attend a private function being organised by him. During the interaction between the duo, issue of construction of multiplex came up and Nagarjuna requested KCR not to raise any objections to the coming up of the multiplex, said a close confidant of KCR. What was the TRS chief s reply However,he did not elaborate. Film producer Raghavendra Rao also approached the TRS through KCRs colleague MP and film star of yesteryears Vijayashanti recently.Sources said he explained to her the objections that were being raised by the TRS over the multiplex that has been constructed on Banjara Hills Road number 2.The state government had allotted one acre of land at a very cheap rate to Raghavendra Rao in 1985 to set up an audio recording studio. However,in violation of the agreement,Rao constructed a multiplex two years ago. This was challenged in the high court by TRS senior leader T Harish Rao following which the state government issued a show cause notice to the producer for violating the agreement. Now,Raghavendra Rao wants to solve the issue amicably by placating the TRS,and accordingly, met Vijayashanti. In fact,Raghavendra Rao and Vijayashanthi maintained close relations during the 1990s when she acted in several of his films.Their relationship soured after she entered politics and floated the Talli Telangana party in 2005.Sources said Vijayashanti told Rao that she will talk to TRS chief and see whether any amicable solution could be found.

Krishna, another veteran hero who owns Padmalaya Studios, and his family members also reached across to the TRS recently, the sources said. They called up Vijayashanti over telephone and sought her help to resolve the land row, the sources said. In Krishnas case, the state had allotted 9.5 acres of land at a very cheap rate in 1985 to set up Padmalaya Studios. However, because of Krishnas Congress ties, former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy reportedly relaxed the rules and allowed them to sell the land to a third party. However, with the issue dragged to the high court, the latter has given a directive that no permanent structure should come up on Padmalaya Studios until further orders. Representatives of Anand cine service owned by LV Prasad also met Vijayashanti and Harish Rao some time back and urged them to resolve the land issue. In their case,in 2002,5 acres of land was allocated to the company for vehicle parking purpose at Banjara Hills. When the company tried to sell the land, the TRS approached the court and secured a stay order.

According to sources, other Tollywood personalities like Ganesh (comedian turned film producer) and MS Raju are also making moves through intermediaries to meet KCR shortly to discuss film development activities in the Telangana region. After their initial opposition to the TRS,Tollywood bigwigs have realised that if they need to protect their interests in the Telangana region,KCR is the man to talk to.Hence, the extension of the olive branch, said the sources.

T creation a political question: SC

The Supreme Court on Friday said the issue of carving out a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh was a political question which cannot be answered by it. It said no larger constitutional question is arising at this stage from the issue as there is no decision on the division of the state requiring its interference to examine the legality. We are of the view that at this stage, the larger constitutional question does not arise for consideration. As far as the division of the state is concerned,it is a political question and we cannot answer that, a Bench comprising Chief Justice S H Kapadia and Justice K S Radhakrishnan said. The Bench disfavoured the idea of laying down of guidelines for exercising powers by the government to go into the contentious issue of creating a separate Telangana state. It said that when a law is proposed for carving out the new state,it would consider the matter afresh. Till date,no law has been proposed for the purpose of carving out the state and as and when something is proposed or enacted,we will consider it and it will be open for the petitioners to approach this court, the Bench said giving liberty to the petitioners to withdraw their petitions which were filed when the agitation for Telangana was at its peak.

The two PILs had contended that no constitutional power can be exercised arbitrarily and there must be some guidelines in this regard. Power under Article 3 and 4 is the solemn constitutional power and it is obvious that no constitutional power can be exercised arbitrarily without there being a fundamental constitutional paradigm or basis to the exercise of power, senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for K Srinivas Reddy, said. The courts attention was drawn to the fact that government has appointed B N Srikrishna panel. However, the Bench said it will not go into that aspect as it was not speculating about what would be the recommendation.

Lawyers demand T quota, hold hunger strike

Vexed with the onlyassurances-no-action attitude of the authorities, several advocates of the AP High Court belonging to Telangana region on Friday launched an indefinite hunger strike in front of the office of the advocate general demanding that he take steps to ensure that the T-advocates get their due representation in the posts of government pleaders.Later on Friday night, following chief minister Rosaiahs assurance, the lawyers ended their strike. The lawyers were asking for a proportional share for their region in appointments both at the HC and at the administrative tribunals and other legal bodies. The advocates, who have been giving several ultimatums to AG D V Sitarama Murthy, refused to grant anymore time to him.The AG came to them twice seeking some more time to take up the issue with the government. We have been asking you for six months and it is unfortunate that not even one SC government pleader from our region was appointed so far, the agitators told the AG.
